Significant over-resolution (which admittedly could be my computer, but since I don't have any over-resolution on the 5 other monitors I've hooked it up to, I'll most likely blame the monitor) isn't really a problem. compared to the almost complete lack of contrast in the monitor. With the best settings I could get (brightness down, contrast up, several different modes), it's hard to see what's happening on the screen. This problem is compounded by the fact that the monitor is tilted forward about 7-10 degrees, which would be fine if mounted above my head. Unfortunately, sitting at a desk means leaning forward and down to see the screen. In a normal viewing position, the combination of poor contrast and downward tilt makes the screen unreadable. It's cheap, of course; but it wouldn't be worth it if it was free.
