I thought it retracted!

I have one where you can pull down the silver part that the plant hooks to and then it will stay where you pulled it down to so you can water the plant and then you can make it retract. So Easy. This one though does not retract and if you have a plant hanging on it, you have to lift the plant and hope the thing will wind back up/retract. it's worse than having no device at all.
