Review on Topeak Hexus X Multi Tool by George Scoles

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fully Featured and Compact

I've transitioned from the massive Alien II to this much smaller and sleeker instrument. Before purchasing the Hexus X, I spent a lot of time researching multi-tools from every manufacturer I could find (even unknown Chinese names and European ultra-luxury manufacturers). A full line of allen wrenches, tire manipulators and chain tools was nearly impossible for Philips. As far as I know, this is the ONLY tool of all the tools my particular bike needs (except for things you can't get in a multi-tool like a cassette wrench or bottom bracket wrench). I have owned 5 mechanical devices since purchase and several friends have also used it and all have been happy. I was surprised that the pry bars are actually a lot better than my Granite Talon tire levers. They're not the most ergonomic (PITA for removing from the side of the tool) but the bead hook design means it's almost impossible to pinch the tube when mounting the tire (it's short and has a nice smooth but thin edge that cuts the bead grips but does not protrude into the pipe space). Everything seems more than robust enough for a multi-tool. I really can't recommend the Hexus X enough. It's small, sturdy, and well stocked with everything I could really need on the road or trail. It has never let me down, and when it does, I will be buying more!
