My fault for not thinking it through. I was hoping to make banana plugs for the test leads but didn't pay attention to the gauge or the fact that the plug wasn't insulated. They are rated for 10 AWG wire (heavy red wire in the photo) or maybe 8 gauge. . The wire needs to be secured with this small screw to clamp it. For test leads (16 AWG or less) you should definitely solder the wire to the connector with the screw installed and then try to remove the screw so you can attach the red or black plastic end after it cools. The screw touches the wire and protrudes beyond the cover so you'll need to add heat shrink tubing if you need insulation like I did in the photo on the left. the other (in the middle of the photo) if you need. I got them to work but should have gotten something more fitting for the purpose. I assume speaker wire is fine as long as your screw crimp holds up. However, this probably won't happen, so consider soldering the wire in place. The depth of the cup is only 5mm.
