Three years ago I installed a Lock'er Down® console safe with a 4-digit combination lock in my 2013 Toyota Tacoma. Installation was fairly easy, despite the fact that the "instruction sheet" is sparse. Took me about 45 minutes to install from start to finish. Installation requires removal of the factory flip-up console cover. This part of the operation was the most difficult due to the tiny screws, but if you have reasonable manual dexterity and are used to doing DIY projects, installation should be something most people can accomplish with minimal effort and tools. (Straight handle screwdriver and socket wrench, as far as I remember). I like the four digit combination lock. It seems like it's difficult for anyone to "choose" and the four combination wheels mean there are 10,000 possible combinations. This makes it much more difficult to open than the key version. When you enter a combination and turn the knob, the spring-loaded cover opens on its own. This is a good setting. The Lock'er Down is well constructed and protects its contents from attacks from above and from the side as it is essentially an all-metal box that fits inside the console. While I'm sure a determined thief could eventually remove the device and destroy the car's interior, that prospect makes it a sufficient deterrent for most criminals to look for easier prey rather than risk causing much noise and confusion . Defeat the squad and get caught at the crime scene. Because it's inside the console, most thieves don't even know it's there. One annoyance is that the device leaves a gap between the safe itself and the outside edge of the passenger side panel. The slot is large enough for pens, loose change, bullets, keys and even a tiny flashlight. Once fallen into this abyss, such objects are like lost souls that have entered the abyss of Tartarus. In other words, they become unrecoverable unless you remove the device. While Lock'er Down slightly reduces the usable space inside the console, there's still plenty of room inside. Individuals interested in firearm storage may be interested in the fact that the unit's interior can hold an HK45C and two spare magazines, as well as a few other small items. It's not big enough for most full-size handguns, but small cars and many compact firearms fit easily. Of course, it goes without saying that you should unload and clean your gun before loading it, and I always wrap mine in a small cloth to keep it from getting dirty when loading or unloading it (the unit is solid steel). And I personally would never rely on a long term gun cache - just out of common sense, common sense and a desire to be a responsible gun owner. created a product that is absolutely worth the money. I'm glad I installed it in my truck and I plan to use it for years to come. I wish the company would make these units for many other vehicle makes and models such as Subaru.
