I was skeptical of the reviews saying that this device burns everything. I assumed user error was involved, but I was wrong. Food really burns. He turned the bottoms of 4 French bread pizzas completely black while I experimented to find the right settings and placement on the rack. He even burned the bottom of the pizza, which remained icy in the middle. I think the problem is that the heating elements never turn off. I've seen elements in other toasters that cycle on and off to regulate the cooking temperature. The bottom element (used for the "Bake" setting) in this unit is never turned off, so it basically works as an inverted fryer.
