This radio and speaker are truly excellent. And it's a great deal for the price. It's a bit bigger than I expected, but that's undoubtedly one of the reasons it sounds so good. I wanted this type of device so I could use it as speakers for my desktop computer (via the stereo mini jack from the computer and into this speaker) and also have a radio on my desk. Some features: BENEFITS - The sound quality is surprisingly good. Full, not can. Good bass response. This unit replaces the Tivoli Pal and this cheaper radio sounds better. It's a lot bigger now so the speaker has the benefit of being in a bigger box so it should sound better. (Of course the Tivoli sounds great, but this one sounds better.) - I wanted to be able to switch it from FM to AUX (for the computer speaker) WITHOUT having to unplug the cable from the computer to the Sangean unit. It works GREAT. Now I can switch back and forth from the computer to the radio at any time without changing anything else. Why is this important to me? Tivoli radios require you to unplug anything connected to the AUX jack in order for the radio to play. Of course it has a small switch on the front (like most Tivoli) to switch between AM, FM, AUX or AUX/BT, but you can leave nothing connected to AUX and just switch to radio. As much as a Tivoli fan I am, this is a major design flaw if you want to use the AUX jack and radio, which is a big deal. Well, when it comes to portability, Tivoli PAL has it all on this device. It is NOT portable. This is a good size tabletop radio. The retro tuner lighting is really nice. Soft, warm and retro.- Convenient controls. Solid, logical and simple. CONS - Tuning on this device (Sangean) is weaker than on Tivoli models. It certainly mimics a tuner's analog dial, but is actually probably digital, as it can oddly fix a station, moving from one direction (up) or (down) to several different places on the dial. It's hard to describe, but I saw someone on a radio expert website trying to describe this type of behavior. - FM dialing is correct in terms of channel numbers and location. AM Dial from a good 50p. So if you tune a station to 750, you might find that station on 800, not 750. I don't like it, but I can live with that. As others have pointed out, AM may not be this radio's forte. . If you have a strong area and a station that you like signal wise and you can point the radio to get it tuned in properly then you're fine. It has connections for an external AM antenna, which is very good for a radio in this price range. Result. Seems to have done very well. Firmly. Powerful. Really amazing sound. The sound quality is really good for both music and voice. It's very nice to listen to.
