Wanted to save time Got a waste of time. There was an old Delta Midi lathe. It took extra time to make some longer pieces. Extensions for my old lathe were no longer available. I've been seriously looking at some very nice long lathes. Decided to buy a new delta lathe with extension table and stand. I wasn't ready for all the work it would take to get it working. I am NOT a perfectionist. You only need something to flip some items longer than 15 inches. I hope to be happy with this car one day. So far it has been a waste of time with nothing to show. This test covers all three components: 1. Delta Industrial 46-460 12-1/2" Midi Variable Speed Lathe A lot of time is spent getting the lathe ready for use. The base machine appears to "work" As I would expect. I look forward to using it. But for now due to problems with the bed, extension and extension post I had to use a friend's lathe on an intended project. To be honest I couldn't do anything do than make it usable in the weeks I've had it.I spent my time working on a filming project with a friend's machine. The bed has several cast spurs at the bottom that keep the tools from easily overturning move the surface.Especially on the very edge of the forearm.Spent a lot of time sanding, sanding and sanding.(see photos) 2. Delta Industrial 46-463 Modular Midi Lathe Bed Extension ng This extension took a long time to fit properly and allow the tailstock and tool rest to move along the length of the bed. (Picture 3. Delta Industrial 46-464 Midi Lathe Modular Extension Stand ExtensionOMG! The B-pillar should have been for a different model. The center support thread was too small (had to tap on it to accommodate the leg). But even when the foot was fully extended, it didn't reach the ground. None of the holes were positioned correctly at the top and I essentially had to measure and drill new holes to get the center platform to fit properly. (photo) Even my dog wondered why I spend so much time on it. Now I have it in my shop and I can really use it. I even bought a new set of carbide burs... But every time I look at it I get a little angry. I love my shop and my tools. Emotions come uninvited. I look forward to feeling better about this purchase, but I kick myself for not getting any of the higher end, longer bed machines.
