Review on πŸ”¦ Heath/Zenith HZ-5316-BZ Deluxe Bronze Motion Sensor with DualBrite: Efficient Replacement by Ryan Nguyen

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Really disappointed

I have been a happy user of Heath Zenith Dual Brite motion detectors through a pair of homes for over 20 years and a few applications. After enduring numerous snowstorms, countless days of 100+ degrees and even a hurricane, my 17+ year old detector finally died of old age and I ordered it as a replacement. It showed up quickly and I installed it immediately to have my driveway lights back. It quickly turned out that the "on time" switch was defective and I had the choice of whether the light was only on for 1 or 20 minutes. My favorite time of 5 minutes didn't work so it's back. Again, the replacement from Revain got to me quickly and was installed the same day. When it got dark, it was clear I had a problem. The light never went out and the red LED kept blinking, indicating he was seeing something. When I finished covering parts of the detector to see what it "sees", not only was the ENTIRE sensor wrapped in black electrical tape, a cover was placed on top of the tape - and it "saw" " still something. ! Impossible. A call and email to HZ customer service resulted in replies stating that CFLs, fluorescent lights and motors on the same circuit could be causing this problem. A few considerations: My 17 year old unit never had this problem and after searching for what is shown on this chart I not only did not find any CFLs etc, I could not find anything else on this chart at all. ! I went through reviews of the Revain and found someone who had similar problems, then went to Lowe's to buy a similar HZ motion detector which solved the problem. I thought it would be a long road, but with no other options I went to Lowe's and bought the HZ SH-5316-BZ model and installed it. Works perfectly! It's a bit different in how it works as the light slowly dims and lights up, but the main thing is that it works. I'm going back to Lowes to buy a part. I might need another one by the age of 17 or so!
