Useful to prevent your brake pads from moving against the calipers and causing a squeak/squeal. I've been a GM NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) technician for several years and this stuff has proven very useful for disc brake pad issues. This material acts as an interface between the pad backing plate and the caliper pad to glue them together and isolate vibration and pad movement during different stages of braking. Over the years I've worked with many GM engineers on various brake sounds. Problems and complaints, this has always been our solution for many of them. Incidentally, the dealer I worked at required us to put this on the back of ALL brake pads for ALL disc brake services. Complaints receded. While some disliked the bright orange, the compromise was often welcomed and accepted. It's worth keeping a tube of these in your garage if you service disc brakes at all.
