An excellent filter for additional biological support in any aquarium. Safe for all residents, economical and as loud as the air pump you connect it to. The only disadvantage is the space requirement in the aquarium, but with some plants and/or driftwood it almost disappears. If, like most of us, you tend to overcrowd your aquariums, do yourself and your fish a favor and add one of these. They're also great when you need to set up a new tank. Simply place one of the mature sponges in your new aquarium and your system will run its course. I suggest you never clean them other than pulling them out to remove dirt. But if you need to remove the sponges to clean them, gently soak them in a container of aquarium water. Do not use untreated water or shake it too vigorously or you will lose the bacteria.
