An improvement over the camera's built-in microphone

instead of in front of a live audience. Initially, I recorded audio using a professional microphone and voice recorder, but syncing audio to video took me a long time. I thought adding an external microphone to the camera might solve the problem. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, but it prompted me to delve deeper into the possibilities of the camera's external audio input. What I found was that the camera really failed to capture professional quality audio: I fed it from the output of my mic amp with my good mic, and no matter how I adjusted the level of the sound entering the camera. , the result made you want more/better. This preamble is important because it tells you that I really can't just appreciate the mic here. I couldn't hook it up to my good mic amp and test it that way, but I got the impression it wasn't directional the way I wanted it to be for this application, so it picks up more background noise than I expected. It also didn't have as much audio output as I would have liked to have fed directly into the 70D, even at a +20dB gain position away from the speaker where we plan to position the camera. One problem with using the internal microphone with continuous autofocus on is that you hear the autofocus motor in the recording. Using this microphone helped a lot. Yes, you can turn off the autofocus, but that's not really what I wanted, so this review is about the difficulties with the system rather than the mic itself. However, keep in mind that simply adding an external mic like this to your camera -Setup may not perform as expected.
