The Velvet 56 is a 56mm f/1.6 lens with a metal frame, suitable for both full-frame and DX cameras. It is well designed and easy to use. It's recommended to use it on a camera with Live View or Focus Peaking so you can be sure of what's in focus and what's not. Focus falls to very soft at the widest apertures, suitable for dreamy landscapes or portraits with at least 1/3 of the subject's body in the frame. That's not enough for undistorted head and shoulders portraits on a full-frame camera. At f8 and below this is an effective macro lens with up to 1/2 life size image and good sharpness. Those used to autofocus will have to get used to manual focusing, and the focus travel is long and smooth, the hallmark of a good lens. The lens is a bit more expensive than what you get which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 4. But if you want a blur lens and don't mind manual focusing, don't want to use the various (often expensive) blur filters available, then this lens is worth trying.
