Three stars because I don't want to be unfair, but this was an episode for me that was a gnashing of teeth. Advantages: Good rope length. When the kite takes off, it's easy to hold onto the spool. Cons: Uncomfortable to relax on a windy day. If I let go of the winder I will have a hard time regaining control. The string got hot and scary as it whistled through the atmosphere. The locking mechanism is not easy when a good wind gives pressure. But the real downside is how complete and utterly tangled that line can be. After a day at the beach I noticed it wound up in a mess with lots of loose sections so I tried rewinding it. There was an error. After a string has been stretched/used several times, it tends to form tight, inch-long loops that tangle with each other. After two and a half days of picking I still have a photo. I never got past that point and gave it all up in disgust. It was an exercise in frustration! Being in a remote town on the Oregon coast, I couldn't find a kite rope despite searching the internet and in the car. In hindsight, I could have looked for rope at a hardware store, but I was so focused on "kite string" that I couldn't think of it. Luckily I had another spool, a smaller one, and I was able to fly away before the end of the holidays. I will no longer use this role.
