Review on SMALLRIG Camera Cage for Sony A7 II/A7R II/A7S II Mirrorless Digital Camera with Top Handle and HDMI Cable Lock - 2014 by Peter Sullivan

The camera is not fixed in the cage

I must have received a broken one or something as this cage doesn't fit my A7Sii at all. Cages are inherently meant to provide a snug fit for the camera you put in them and I figured a perfect fit for this case would be perfect. However, when I installed the cage on my A7Sii, the bottom plate was bent at an odd angle, and when I tightened the bottom screw, the camera moved away from the cage. In addition, the fixing screw has a smooth part. It is unthreaded and the thread ends too early, making it impossible to firmly attach the camera to the cage. If the screw is tightened as tight as possible, the camera can rotate about 1 cm side to side within the cage, causing the screw to loosen as the camera moves within the cage. This renders the cage useless as it doesn't do the basic job of holding the camera firmly inside so I have to return it. I hope it was just a bad copy but if this is the design of this 'custom' cage then I have to keep the 1 star rating and suggest people look for another brand of cage.

  • PERFECT PROTECTION
Cons
  • Needs a socket
