WARNING. When tested this filter gives dangerous levels of ppm

I am one of the few people who use a tester to measure ppm in water. Anything above 200 ppm is considered dangerous. Here in Washington DC, the water typically falls between 167 and 182 ppm. When I first received the filter it read an astronomical 1132ppm. After running 4-6 gallons of water through the filter according to the manufacturer's instructions (I called for instructions), the lowest reading I could get was 137 ppm. I thought I had a bad filter so I asked for a replacement but I had the same problem. I am deeply concerned that innocent people can drink this "filtered" water believing that the water is pure while the mineral content remains so high. I simultaneously tested bottled water which tested at zero each time (hooray) and Brita filters which currently test at around 33 (still way better). First off I would like to say that it is IMPORTANT that consumers follow the instructions as the extremely toxic water initially flows through the filter - remember this was 1132ppm and 200ppm and above is considered dangerous. Second, I personally think that running 4-6 gallons through the filter before it will work is pretty extreme. I took it apart in two days because my dispenser doesn't flow particularly fast, so even filling half the amount took me an hour. Third, the water was NOT filtered which is scary. I remove the filter entirely and return it for a refund because drinking from the tap is essentially the same, saves us $50, and eliminates the possibility of toxic effects from the contents of the filter. I really think this should be looked at more closely as not everyone is actively testing the water and relying on the company to say that water using this filter should be around 4ppm (at least that's what I was told in a phone conversation with said). the enterprise). On a positive note, the EveryDrop team was great and polite and I really enjoyed working with them. They were just as shocked as I was by the water test results.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen
