Review on Stonepoint Emergency LED Road Flare by Rickey Ortega

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm convinced it saved our lives

Before writing this review I looked at the 1 and 2 star reviews (which made some important points but the deal for didn't break us). Why? Because we faced such a situation: heavy snowfall, a car broke down and poor visibility. We immediately took these signal lights out and were happy to see that they were visible from a distance (we stood back off the road, onto the ground and away from the car to verify this). One of the key benefits of this product is that each distress signal is magnetized and sticks to cars. I'm also buying another set because I think it's safer to keep both behind the car and on the side as well as on the car itself. The point is, they were working on a busy highway and we could see the cars. trying to avoid our car long before they were within range. There was no screeching or skidding noise from these cars. In the meantime we stayed outside the car as the temperature wasn't too cold. Note that the beacons can be "knocked over" by a 6,000 pound car. I can't confirm that because it didn't happen. I really want to address those who have given lower ratings to this product. Yes, it can be difficult to insert batteries into typical battery compartments for those with arthritis or problems inserting batteries Yes, it takes some force to move the top of the beacons counter-clockwise to open the case (but not that much) .I don't exercise enough to have above average arm strength. But just to be sure, I had a 12-year-old man, a 50-year-old man, and an 80-year-old man open a case. None of them does more than the usual household chores and activities. I don't know if some kits have reliability issues, but we'll find out soon enough when I order more (and I'll check my review if we run into any issues with any of the beacons). You must attach the batteries firmly, nicely and straight. There is not enough room on top of each beacon to accommodate protruding batteries. We didn't care. Batteries are also not included, but many products come without batteries so I didn't assume they had batteries. The only decision we had to make was whether to install the batteries ahead of time or leave them ready and waiting in the storage bag that comes with this product. In an emergency, it seems desirable to turn on the beacons and get instant security. However, if you install batteries ahead of time, you must remember to check them often enough to avoid battery leakage and possible bad beacons. There is both a flash mode and a continuous mode for the lighting. If you use the flash option, you should get 60 hours of battery life. Luckily it only took us a few hours. If you use the Always on (no blinking) option, you only get 20 hours of battery life. I think the flash will get more attention and that's what we used in our emergency. The main benefit is that the beacons are compact and come in a storage pouch. Just put the bag in the trunk of your car or anywhere in the back seat or in an over seat storage bag and you're done. I'm definitely getting one for my son's car as well as my wife's car.
