I bought this to keep my dogs from going upstairs. I have a gate that opens part of it but I just couldn't get it to work right on my stairs, it's not the gate. . I've used various methods to try and keep the thing closed and this is the best method I've found. I have a dog who found that if she 'sniffed' her she could move and the gate would open wide enough for him to get through - grrrr! But it makes a little noise at the metal gate so I can hear it and yell at it to stop. I really like the way it looks and feels. I have white goals and a gray carpet so that goes well. When not being used to keep the gate closed, it looks good just because it's there.
