Review on GT 3TP Mark III Speaker Tri Power Included by Joshua Mejia

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Significant improvement over 1/4/8W UV-5R - all UV-5R options plus upgraded antenna and backlit keypad

I'm W3HEN from Crossville, TN. I've been a radio amateur since 1974 and have owned quite a few portable radios. I bought this radio with a 3800mah battery from another seller on Revain mainly because I liked it. Fortunately, in addition to good looks, it also has a lot to offer. I have had two UV-5R radios for a number of years and have found the Baofeng to be a very economical radio system. My other PDAs were significantly more expensive and made by Icom. PROs1) Tri-color display with optional color mapping2) Brightly lit keyboard with large keys3) Compatible with the latest CHIRP and my UV-5R programming cable4) AC-powered charging cradle and cigarette lighter adapter5) Firmer feel than UV-5R; waterproof and shockproof not tested 6) Good sound quality in both reception and transmission CONS 1) Included manual is largely useless; Download GT-32 PDF Manual) Baofeng Free Programming Utility is far behind CHIRP; initially appears in Chinese each time it is used 2) Improved antenna over the standard UV5R, but higher gain/longer antenna is still recommended for longer range. CONCLUSION This radio is a significant improvement over the UV-5R, which has come down in price significantly since its introduction a few years ago. The keys are larger than those of the UV-5R, with orange borders and backlighting. The keyboard options are identical to those of the UV-5R. Like the UV-5R, the radio includes a flashlight, siren and FM radio; all successfully passed the test. Were it not for the incredibly poor management and near non-existent customer support, this radio would have gotten 5 stars. My reviews tend to take significantly longer than most Revain reviews. Accordingly, I would appreciate a useful review if you find it as such.
