Good for what it is

Like it better than my other baofengs. I don't know if it brings the full 8 watts. I am currently using it as a mobile phone with a magnetic antenna. The battery life is very good, the standard antenna seems to be better than the UV5r. It's not Yaesu or even Wouxun, but it doesn't cost the same as them. Easy programming with Chirp. Looks good and works well enough .73 John

Amazing radio for the price

This is my 3rd Baofeng and by far the best. According to other hams I talk to a lot, going down to 8 watts definitely helps. The antenna is much easier to handle. I like the toggle button to switch from VFO to MR. I never understood why Baofeng makes you turn off the radio first on other models. I read there were issues with the handheld mic not working and it didn't work at first. But I would say it's a tight fit. Don't be afraid to press hard the first time until it clicks into place. Now…

Good range, cheap feel, disposable antenna. - Miss for Baofeng.

I wanted to like this radio. I actually wanted it to be my new favorite. After spending a week with him I sent him back. This is the same standard Baofeng UV interface, there's nothing surprising about that, and there are no points for it - I expected that. What I wasn't expecting was how "cheap" it felt. I was expecting the yellow case to be "more durable" or more shock absorbing. It's really just cheap rubberized plastic. The whip antenna was a complete joke and I bent it within minutes of…

Fairly easy to use - two way radios

Fairly easy to use, programming cables can be tricky, there are many fakes out there and not all chips have drivers for the latest Windows OS and the case design means you may need it to cut the plastic of the data cable to fully insert it into the radio. I was able to get this working with CHIRP with a nice gable and the programming is fine. The radios work well, they seem to have all the performance advertised, the only real complaint is the charging station. The hole is larger than the base…

I'm W3HEN from Crossville, TN. I've been a radio amateur since 1974 and have owned quite a few portable radios. I bought this radio with a 3800mah battery from another seller on Revain mainly because I liked it. Fortunately, in addition to good looks, it also has a lot to offer. I have had two UV-5R radios for a number of years and have found the Baofeng to be a very economical radio system. My other PDAs were significantly more expensive and made by Icom. PROs1) Tri-color display with optional

Pros
  • Frequency Range: 65-108MHz (Commercial VHF radio reception only), VHF: 136-174MHz (RX/ TX) , UHF: 400-520MHz (RX/TX).
Cons

I really like this radio. It has served me well and works well as a cheap technically licensed ham radio. His phone mic works great and I think it's good value for what I want to do with him as a ski instructor. I also think this is my prettiest radio as the yellow/orange color is more appropriate for emergencies and road use than the standard black which I think looks sturdier. Its software works EXACTLY like my Baofeng BF-F8HP with two clocks, the same robotic voice when selecting channels…

EDIT: I'm KK4WFR from Southcentral Kentucky. I work in a radio shop and have access to all kinds of test equipment. That aside I only tested the power output of this radio as many have stated in their reviews that they didn't believe it actually puts out 8 watts but had no way to confirm their suspicions. We all know that these radios are a HUGE bang for your buck and a great way for radio amateurs, new and old, to get an extremely cheap radio that will work just as well as many of the high…
