Review on EPICA Stainless Steel Compost Bin with Charcoal Filter - 1.3 Gallon Capacity by Tim Jolivette

Revainrating 3 out of 5

This is a five star product apart from a few aspects of the lid design.

The lid of this product consists of two parts that are permanently connected by spot welding or other method. If there were two changes to the lid, the product would have received five stars. top/outer lid, bottom/inner lid. If we could easily split the lid in two, it would be easier for us to change/inspect the filters, and the filters could be made slightly larger to fit better. With the lid now constructed, the main filter cannot be inspected/replaced without being damaged/deformed, leading to a situation where more fruit flies can enter the main hopper. Of course, having a fine mesh metal mesh built into the lid to cover the large openings at the top of the lid greatly reduces the likelihood of customers having problems with fruit flies when using this container. The fine mesh prevents fruit flies from entering the container through the large holes in the top of the lid. So I suggest the manufacturer: 1. Install a fine mesh screen on the inside of the lid, covering the large holes in the top of the lid. 2. Slightly redesign the cover so it can be split into two parts for easier removal/replacement/inspection of the filters. I'm updating this review after using the Epica compost bin for several months. Fruit flies are a big problem with this product. You can enter through the large openings at the top of the lid and easily move between filters and compostable materials below. This product is in dire need of a fine mesh screen on the inside of the lid to cover the holes in the top of the lid.

Pros
  • SUPPLIED WITH REPLACEABLE CARBON FILTER: The specially designed activated carbon filter is the key to an odorless compost bin. The filter can be washed with soap and water like a trash can. Lasts more than 6 months with careful handling.
Cons
  • Periodicity
