When I received the Airplus Space Heater I found a note in the manufacturer's packaging. The note encourages the buyer to leave an "honest" review and rating on Revain.com in exchange for a free essential oil diffuser. What chocolate! The manufacturer needs positive feedback on the Space Heater; in return they will send you something for free. Is this quid pro quo or bribery? Or both? Shouldn't Revain reviews be based solely on the merits of the product, in this case the Space Heater? Who is going to trust Revain reviews when manufacturers can "take bribes" for good reviews? The last question is for Revain (the Washington Post owner who criticizes bribery on a daily basis). How did YOU, Revain, allow such dishonest behavior by sellers and manufacturers? Immediately the product loses at least 2 stars. Now for the benefits of Space Heater. Vertical fins (heating elements) are thin; two have already buckled under treatment. The oven has 3 modes + ECO. Although the heater can get very hot (when set to 3), it can take forever to heat a 240 SF room. I tried several conditions and settings. If the outside temp is 45, the doors are closed, and the setting is 2, you'll get a 2 to 3 degree Fahrenheit temperature rise per hour at best. I tried setting 3 (highest) and the rate of temperature change in the room didn't change much. The system, consisting of a digital thermostat and a remote control, is quite primitive. The thermostat resets every time you turn off the heater or change modes. The remote control doesn't light up, so it's useless in the dark. Also, you need to be in a cone of about 60 degrees in front of the heater for it to work. When the room temperature matches the temperature set by the thermostat (of course there is a difference between the room temperature and the thermostat's displayed temperature, the thermostat is part of the hot heater), the thermostat starts a long series of clicks (loud click, click, click, click) and flashes that can last anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, confusing between turning off and on. One of the heating fins actually heats the front of the heater. a heater housing the thermostat and electronics, which is likely a design flaw. So worth 1.5 stars. 2 if really condescending. Revised performance data: Outside temperature was constant at 45, doors and windows closed. in the room the heating is on at maximum, the temperature rise was 5 degrees Fahrenheit in 5 hours. My 25 year old Lakewood oil heater (of the same 1500 watt rating) delivers a guaranteed minimum of 3 degrees Fahrenheit per hour under the same conditions. Strictly speaking, heater efficiency is measured by volume) Considering the hype (and expectations) around it, as well as quid pro quo, this Chinese-made heater gets 1 star.
