The driver's door on my 2000 S10 needed new hinge bushings. I found some YouTube videos for sharing. A shade tree mechanic used a crowbar to knock out a door spring. To install the spring, he placed the spring in a vise to compress it and then used wire to hold it compressed. I was so proud of myself and thought I could skip the supercharger. The spring popped out easily. The assembly of the sockets went as expected. I put the spring in a vise and tied it with a few turns of stiff wire. The opposite side of the spring still twisted open and was too long to reinstall. Maybe my pen was stronger than in the video. Besides, it seemed too dangerous to try. Compression springs are potential rockets. I ordered a 21910 plug. As advertised, it was high quality hardened steel. I easily reinstalled the spring in just a few minutes. It was also much safer.
