Review on Crucial BX 240GB SATA CT240BX500SSD1 SSD by Adam Tomasz ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quality is top notch, happy with everything.

On the Internet, I met testing for the "survivability" of these SSDs. According to the passport, the 240 GB model has a resource of 80 TBW (the amount of overwritten data guaranteed by the manufacturer). In fact, in the tests there were results hundreds of times greater (I will attach a screenshot from one such test). It is clear that there are unsuccessful or defective copies, it is always a lottery. But the percentage of "wins" in the BX500 is higher than "losses". don't buy 120 GB. Everything is sad there, both with speed and with reliability.

Pros
  • For budget computers / laptops, the ideal combination of price / reliability. One of the main advantages is Micron memory chips, Crucial is Micron's SSD subsidiary. But it is precisely because of low-quality memory chips that budget SSDs most often fail. Most cheap SSD "assemblers" buy memory chips from their manufacturers (Micron, Toshiba, etc.), and take cheaper ones to reduce costs. From batch to batch, such SSDs can have completely different memory chips with noticeably different characteristics (hello, ADATA!). Bought over 50 of these over the course of 3 years. While everyone is working.
Cons
  • I came across reviews that in the last batches they began to install Micron memory chips, but with worse characteristics. Sad if that's really the case. I can’t attribute the “design feature” of bufferless SSDs to disadvantages - a drop in write speed with a large data stream. This is the "price" for its cheapness.

Take it boldly. Samsung may be better, but for the home (in a laptop with a second drive) - a sweet deal
