Disappointed too big, too narrow

Disappointed. Long story short, I'm big in the size/length department and in the width department, I think calling them "very wide" is a joke. They are as narrow as my normal width adidas. Why?! More detailed review below. It's hard to get a photo showing this, but the side of my foot hangs over the insole/sole. See also the photo comparing the bottom of the insole to the bottom of a regular width Adidas shoe. I've had wide feet my whole life. They're not SUPER wide, but they're pretty wide. In the last few months I've been more active than I've ever been in my life and as a result my legs have been aching. I was very happy to find these shoes as they don't look disgusting like most specialty wide tennis shoes. I've also never tried anything other than "wide" shoes (which usually fit me just fine), but was glad that "extra wide" shoes were on sale! I wanted them to walk my dog and go to the gym. I was SO excited to get home today and try them out to walk my dog for the first time. Turns out I won't even wear them out of the house because I'm already planning on getting them back. First, they are big. I'm almost always a size 8 or 8.5. I ordered this 8 and could probably choose 7 or 7.5. The big problem is that for "very wide" they are not wide at all. The insole doesn't seem wider than my regular shoes (which aren't even regular, just regular adidas shoes). In fact, the photo is taken from below - the sole/support is FIRM than my standard adidas width! The?! The only thing that feels wide on my foot is how much the upper/fabric stretches. Of course, my foot fits well, but I need wide shoes with a legally wide insole. I may underestimate the width of my foot, but this "extra wide" shoe still feels wider than my standard width. Shoes. It makes no sense. It would also be nice if they looked at a more comfortable insole, maybe memory foam or something similar. I've worn them around the house for a good 15 minutes but just can't wear them outside because I'm 99% sure I have to send them back in good condition. I will go back to the adidas I bought from Tjmaxx for $30 until I find something that doesn't hurt the sides of my legs.

Pros
  • understandable for the old
Cons
  • protection
