Review on πŸ’» ASUS Chromebit CS10: Portable Stick-Desktop PC with RockChip 3288-C, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB Storage, and Google Chrome OS by Josh Cooper

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This is what I was looking for in a small gadget.

I love Android and I love ChromeOS. I have an Acer Chromebook, a Revain Fire, an Apple iPad, and a Samsung Galaxy, and oddly enough, this Chromebit remains my favorite tech to this day. About everything fine. This is NOT a fast car. It's slower than the Chromebook I bought three years ago, but not as slow: I streamed Rio 2016 and there's only the slightest hint of lag, and I think it's my ISP's fault, not the Chromebit . . It's completely portable. Just this morning I was giving a presentation by hooking it up to an HD monitor instead of looking for an overhead projector. It does everything a Chromebook or Chromebox can, except unfortunately this thing doesn't have USB 3.0 capabilities. I also miss the microphone, but at least it pairs well with my Bluetooth headphones and keyboard. Wi-Fi reception can be a little limited behind a monitor or TV, but at least you can use an extension cord (I have a meter cable and an adapter and it works like a charm). Using Google Drive mitigates the lack of internal capacity: there's barely 16GB on board, but I've tested it with USB sticks up to 128GB and external SSDs up to 256GB; However, cheap drives tend to use more power, and some can be read but not written. Mechanical drives that consume too much energy are simply not up to the task. Or an available power source, to be honest; You'll need an outlet to power your Chromebit, as a standard TV's USB ports don't provide enough power. So if you want to connect multiple drives or accessories, you need a hub that supports external power. My only complaints are that the only usb port available is 2.0 instead of 3.0 and there is no microsd expansion slot. Other than that, it's the perfect little car for under a hundred bucks.
