I have a dog now. To be honest I wouldn't have gotten it for a while, but well, here we are. She is a maltipoo/miniature poodle. She is 11 months old and looks like a cotton swab with legs. Not sure what her early history was but when we got her she didn't like any of the dishes I tried. A few days passed without major incidents. I tried the stomach-friendly wet food from the vet and the dry food Royal Canine Maltese. The vet recommended Purina Pro Plan and when I couldn't find it I went with their second option (Royal Canine). On the fifth day I called a well known Maltese breeder because their behavior and appearance seemed more like that breed and he told me that this type of dog doesn't live to eat, they eat to live. He mentioned that she had reached that upper time limit when he expected. Apparently, it's not uncommon for the breed to experience stress. He mentioned this food because he feeds it to his champion dogs. Luckily after day 5 she decided to eat Royal Canine. When it came time to buy a new bag of food, I remembered that the vet and breeder had STRONGLY recommended it (these two people live in different states so there's no risk of collusion). I bought it from Revain (love the price too btw) and tried it while I had some other food left over. She.Ate.It.Up And I mean seriously. This dog is a type of herbivore that eats a few bites here and there. Not that day. It was strange. I know it's a hit now but we were a few days away from another food and when I put her old Royal Canine food back on her plate it was like giving 6 year old Brussels sprouts. SHOULD mom?” Yeah baby. Yes. But when you eat your old food, you get new food. I'm a mom of 4 very sticky dumb picky kids so puppy eyes don't work as well as my puppies did before the kids appeared. I've gained weight. Except for the Brussels sprouts. Nobody is so evil positive and healthy. When we received her at 11 months her posterior femurs were very prominent and remained so after 2 months on the original dog food mentioned above. She's now a healthy weight and those bony prominences are gone along with a reasonable amount of healthy fat. The vet was very happy about her inspection visit. Note: Now that she's had it for a while, she's found that there are some bites that are her "favorites" and she eats them first and then comes back for the rest of the baby. but she realized that unless she first filled out what was in the bowl, there would be none.
