ROKR 3D Wooden Lantern

Really brilliant technique was used in the development of this puzzle. It's really impressive how everything fits together. The music box is wound up. The small LED ring runs on batteries (included) and lights up from the inside. Flame-related platters rotate in opposite directions for an appealing visual effect. Warnings: 1. Read the instructions carefully and study the illustrations. They tell you that some parts will come printed side up and some will not. IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE - not just aesthetically, but mechanically as well, as I discovered when trying to align the pins with the gears. Luckily this assembly was easily disassembled and reassembled to fit the pins. The other parts fit together, although they are made of wood and cannot be taken apart (at least I wouldn't risk it). A healthy paranoia about getting it right the first time is highly recommended with this puzzle. 2. I sanded as little as possible and am glad I did for two reasons. First, without them, the pieces fit together more tightly (I deviated slightly from the instructions in this regard). Second, there are some seemingly ugly little bulges in some parts (like the uprights) that practically begged to be sanded down, but it later turned out that all those little bulges had an important design purpose. In general, I pressed very carefully - very carefully - when putting the parts together. I agree that some parts are brittle as others have commented on breaking them. Furthermore, at almost every stage, I became more and more convinced that a thorough and simple approach was the right way to put this puzzle together. Although some of the parts are quite fragile, overall the end result seems solid. After it was assembled I didn't feel the need to handle it with kid gloves.3. IMPORTANT NOTE. The clean center cylinder must pass through a thin and fragile wooden ring (detail D6) and be held in place by three clamps on the underside of one of the turntables. This is the only time I've used sandpaper because the cylinder didn't want to slide through the thin little ring that would most likely break if forced to do so. I sanded the inside of the ring and the inside surfaces of the clamps until the clear cylinder rests on the turntable (part A14). This was the hardest part of the puzzle for me as the cylinder initially seemed too long - this created a problem at the other end and prevented the top of the canopy from installing correctly. The instructions didn't say anything about this so it took time to study the assembly to figure out what the problem was.4. Take your time. The assembly instructions could be clearer. Study the assembly to understand the function of the parts as you go; This makes it much easier to understand what the instructions are trying to say. They have a website that claims to contain a video. I looked there for help when I got to the cylinder issue but my browser just gave me an error when I tried to go there. Beginners and children should probably not try this puzzle. It's hard, even if it's not rocket science.6. If the instructions tell you to rub a part with the wax provided, then rub that part! Especially the gearbox, which otherwise does not work properly. (By the way, lip balm works better than wax.) When finished, the model will look exactly like the picture, nothing more, nothing less. All moving parts work as they should. I'm not a big photographer but I add some photos.
