Affordable Xfinity compatible

If you are looking for a good cable modem for Xfinity (Comcast) Internet + Voice, this modem should be on your short list. I bought this model before installing Xfinity and the technician was able to hook it up, set up internet and voice line with no problem. Although my account isn't configured for anywhere near the full 343 Mbps this model is capable of, speed tests show I'm getting the full bandwidth I'm paying for, allowing the modem to run at full DOCSIS 3.0 bandwidth. The built in analog phone adapter gives you access to all the features available through Xfinity Voice such as B. Voicemail, Messages Waiting, Calls Waiting and Caller ID. Voice quality through this modem is as good as one would expect from an Xfinity service. All in all this is a good, light and practical Xfinity voice and internet solution for the home or small office. There are three things to note: 1) For web surfing, this is ONLY a modem. It has NO built-in routing functions - it does not NAT and only has one ethernet port. You should definitely install a firewall or router, even if you're only connecting to one computer. You need minimal barrier between your home network and the wide open internet. In my case, I chose the NetGear ProSafe router as the first line of defense. 2) This device does not have a built-in WiFi connection. You can buy one of the many Wi-Fi routers on the market, most of which have multiple LAN ports for wired devices. 3) You MUST purchase a battery for this modem. The technician who performed my installation informed me that he would not install the customer's built-in VOIP cable modem unless the customer purchased the appropriate battery PRIOR to the installation. Also note that in the event of a power failure, only the voice portion of the modem is powered by the battery. If you want the internet to work during a power outage, you need to connect this modem to the UPS box.
