Works great with Xfinity, but see installer recommendations

After spending over 2 hours with the Xfinity installer, checking the internet and then doing a manual install, I can confirm that this modem works 100% for both internet and Xfinity voice. The speed is amazing and the voice is crystal clear. I highly recommend a firewall/wireless router as it's a gateway only, but it replaces the Comcast gateway, saving you $10 a month and ultimately paying for itself. Here's how it works (along with one caveat). If possible, install the modem yourself! The…

Affordable Xfinity compatible

If you are looking for a good cable modem for Xfinity (Comcast) Internet + Voice, this modem should be on your short list. I bought this model before installing Xfinity and the technician was able to hook it up, set up internet and voice line with no problem. Although my account isn't configured for anywhere near the full 343 Mbps this model is capable of, speed tests show I'm getting the full bandwidth I'm paying for, allowing the modem to run at full DOCSIS 3.0 bandwidth. The built in analog…

It works - read installation notes

Purchased to work with SB6183 as the latter does not have language support. Initially I had some trouble getting it to work, all my fault. Notes * When used alone, installation should be painless. However, if used with a different data modem, do not allow the data MAC address to be added when contacting technical support. They did this to me and I had to keep reactivating the data modem every night before actually activating the phone service when trying to monitor the data and then the data…

Pros
  • Battery backup function (battery not included)
Cons
  • No paint required

WARNING WARNING WARNING - This device will fight your router

As a cable modem, this device will function properly. Fast Comcast/Xfinity installation and authorization. HOWEVER, for some strange reason, Arris decided to build a DHCP server into the modem. The modem address is 192.168.100.1 and cannot be changed. The DHCP service assigns addresses in the 192.168.100.XX pool, which makes no sense. Since it's just a modem, you'll need to use it with a router so you have local addresses and a firewall. When I set my router to talk to this modem, my router's…

Works great with Comcast.

I've had Comcast for 8-9 years and I've been paying rent on the modem the whole time. It started at $5 a month, then $7, now $10. Up to this point I had 2 separate modems, one for the internet and one for the phone (EMTA). I have never wanted to use any of their wireless all in one gateways as I have my own home network, router and WAP. I've long wanted to replace my Comcast equipment and could have done it for the Internet side of things, but there weren't any phone-enabled devices in retail…
