Review on πŸ’¨ ARRIS Surfboard TM822R - Docsis 8X4 Cable Modem/Telephone Certified for XFINITY | Download Speed: Up to 343 Mbps by Tristan Graham

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works great with Comcast.

I've had Comcast for 8-9 years and I've been paying rent on the modem the whole time. It started at $5 a month, then $7, now $10. Up to this point I had 2 separate modems, one for the internet and one for the phone (EMTA). I have never wanted to use any of their wireless all in one gateways as I have my own home network, router and WAP. I've long wanted to replace my Comcast equipment and could have done it for the Internet side of things, but there weren't any phone-enabled devices in retail outlets, so I still had to pay rent. I looked at some of the versions found online (TM722, TM822) but they were generic packaged versions and while many reviewers said they were able to get them to work with Comcast, others told horror stories of trying to " unauthorized" (according to the Comcast version). I recently found this retail version of the TM822 which says on the box "optimized for Xfinity" which of course is Comcast. It's internet ONLY and EMTA modem, no router or wireless access point, which is exactly what I am. Once received and connected, it took about 45 minutes over the phone with Comcast to activate and then a little more for phone service came again. The next day it stopped working for some reason but through another call to Comcast it was stable with no problems My internet speeds haven't changed (I wasn't expecting as I already had a DOCSIS 3.0 modem) I've had it for about 2 years now months, the $10 rent is not on my bill and it pays t itself f for 15 months. So far very satisfied.

Pros
  • 1 Gigabit Ethernet port. Phone port: 2
Cons
  • ill thought out
