the charging function works well. I have an iPhone X with a very thick Otterbox case and it charges with no problems. The ability to recognize the device when it closes and opens when needed seems to work almost flawlessly. I like the position of the button for releasing and holding the phone. It's in the top right corner, which protects it from accidental presses. It seems to me that my iPhone is supported quite reliably. Update: When I first received the holder I was very impressed with the addition of lower wings to support the holder which looked like such a simple and effective improvement. However, after prolonged use of the charger, the locking twist clamp has become loose and no longer stays securely clamped. When I tighten the nut it doesn't tighten enough and moves. Shortly thereafter, I noticed that not only was the charger not providing enough power to charge my iPhone when the Maps app was running, but it seemed to be draining the battery too quickly. Update 2: I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a replacement and it's still working fine.
