I only bought this as a temporary but safe place to hold my son's dwarf hamster, Frank, while I clean the cage. It worked great for that, but I realized it had real value a few nights ago when the tornado sirens went off and the weather alert showed a tornado heading toward our neighborhood. In Alabama you're pretty used to the unpredictability of the weather, especially tornadoes, so we usually rush to a storm shelter quickly without even thinking about it or planning it, so I quickly told my 10-year-old son to put his shoes on with that we could go. Then I put some on myself and we rushed out the back door across the yard to find shelter from the pouring rain. As soon as we were safe I noticed my son had a little blue stretcher and he looked at Frank who was just fumbling safely in it. How the heck he got Frank from cage to cage so quickly was a bit of a mystery to me, but I have to admit I was more concerned that in the midst of all this chaos I hadn't noticed the blue "toy" , which my son fiddled with awkwardly as we raced across the yard, his little pet was there, and he was just trying to keep Frank dry through it all. Given the tumultuous ride, I expected it to be a failed attempt, but Frank seemed dry and indifferent to everything. I was very proud of how well this little economical van held up under the circumstances and didn't freak out or falter in the slightest. I hope this continues to impress me because I'll see a lot more of these antics in Frank's future and maybe try to make a breathable yet waterproof case for his next ride.
