I'm very glad I made this purchase. Another pair of Newport shoes I had for almost a decade before they fell apart. I was hesitant to buy due to the overwhelming reviews, but I wear my hobbies strapless about 90% of the time so I'm really excited about this style. They are prefects. I took them on a 2 week beach walking holiday and they were perfect for both. I got them two weeks before my holiday and wore them around the house during breaks when needed, but they didn't need to be broken in. While the heel straps are not too tight (I can put them on and take them off with ease). adjustable or detachable shoulder straps like the original Newport) they are very comfortable to wear when hiking, even when wet. I tightened the heel straps for the descending portion of our hike and felt chafing so I loosened them again and only tightened the toe and bladder area. As long as you don't make sure the velcro is perfectly aligned you shouldn't have any problems. I look forward to another ten years in these hobbies.
