Review on Enhance Electronic Testing Efficiency with Extech TL809 Electronic Test Lead Kit by Alex Pollard

Revainrating 2 out of 5

They will NOT fit any of the several DMMs I bought them for.

Extech TL809 Electronic Test Lead Set The EXTECH test lead terminals are NOT standard banana plugs and they do not fit the banana plugs on the 5 different multimeters I've tried. . I am returning the Revain set to purchase something suitable. As other comments are mostly positive, I'm wondering if I have a defective kit? Instead of standard flexible banana plugs with multiple spring metal "fins" that make the plug part compressible (see attached picture of standard connectors that are common to the pins of several different DMMs), the connectors I received are solid metal cylinders lined with PVC Grommet (see other attached picture - note I removed - and then lost - the small PVC grommet on the red cable to see if it would interfere with the clutch). If it's a "flashlight probe" as other reviews have noted, it doesn't seem to work in the lights I've tried. As I said, they don't fit the test lead banana plugs on my test leads. I can use considerable force to get the Extech alligator clips to connect firmly (good continuity) to the other end of the Extech test leads. but the massive center barrels (barrels?) on all Extech connectors just don't fit into the sockets on the various gauges I've tried. They may work with Fluke or other more expensive gauges, but they don't seem to work with the cheap Chinese DMMs I bought from Revain. DMMs tend to work well for my home and amateur radio needs, but the cables keep failing - hence the purchase of the Extech kit. I agree with other comments about the seemingly high quality of this kit - body, solid construction etc - but that doesn't make them work with the lights I bought them for. Offers?

Pros
  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
