Review on Acer XB323U GPbmiiphzx Display with HDR600, WQHD (2560X1440), 170Hz, IPS Panel by Matt Rostamian

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Sometimes becomes almost unusable due to flickering, streaks and burn-in.

If it works well, then this monitor is fine. The problem is that it often (at least once a week) doesn't work properly. There are three main behaviors that it randomly exhibits: 1. It flickers (I would estimate the flicker to be between 20-50Hz, so we're not just talking about something refresh rate related) between lighter and darker, which creates it very uncomfortable to use (good thing I don't have a cramp problem!) 2. Vertical stripes appear all over the monitor. The lines are about 3-5 pixels wide and alternate lighter and darker. It also causes discoloration that makes text difficult to read.3. Things that have been on screen for a long time become "spooky" or "baked in" and continue to appear as a transparent overlay even after being moved or collapsed. This happens in a matter of seconds, so it's not the kind of burn-in you might see with a CRT left on for a long time.4. Changing the display (by moving windows or even the mouse) can change the intensity of the flickering and the general appearance of the problems, but it doesn't really help. Eventually the display seems to return to normal, but it takes a few minutes. .I had this problem whether I was using HDMI or DisplayPort. Changing the refresh rate made no difference (I've tried at least 60Hz and 144Hz). Changing HDR modes and other settings had no effect. The actions of Acer support did not help: they forced me to turn off all monitors and hold the power button for 30 seconds. When I plugged it back in and turned it back on, the problem persisted. and happens again and again. Also, when I turn off my computer, the monitor sometimes goes into a power cycle without detecting a signal and then goes back to sleep. Make it last forever. So I often have to turn off the monitor using the power button. Annoyingly, sometimes the power button doesn't work when it's in this loop, requiring me to wait for the right moment to press the button for it to actually turn off. The display sometimes goes black. I have to alt-tab the game and then return to the game before the image comes back. Overall, this monitor is basically terrible. Edit: Well, Revain's video compression is terrible so you can't really tell what's going on. on video :(
