Fog setting doesn't work

Fog setting knob doesn't seem to work. Turns the humidifier on/off but does not change the mist intensity. No matter the position of the button, the mist always seems "high" and all the water drains out in less than 12 hours. Because of this, the humidity in the room is higher than optimal. replacement ordered. I hope the problem only occurs in one block.
