My neighbor has the Pottery Barn version of these candles and I love how real they look, but I couldn't bring myself to spend $50 per candle plus $10 for the remote. Some reviews said these are "just as good" so I took at chance at $28. Unfortunately, these just aren't quite as real looking as the Pottery Barn ones. Here's a breakdown of the differences:- The biggest problem is that the flame is not as bright and is a warmer color (orange not white -- the one on the bottom left in my photo is smytle).- The smytle flame rests on a bend metal bar rather than on a hook, this causes the movement to be more predictable -- and makes it look a bit more fake, especially the light that is cast on a nearby wall.- The remote control is overly complicated, lots of features but ugly: think Android vs. Apple. This is more of a personal preference though, if you really need different brightness settings and 4 different timer settings this might be good for you.- With regard to the timer function, the Pottery Barn brand still has that feature, it is just on the bottom of the candle. I think in some ways this is a more elegant solution than the remote.- The two different modes "non-flicker" or "flicker" seem useless to me. In flicker mode the candle doesn't wave and in non-flicker mode it does. I want it to flicker and move, but that isn't an option.- The wax looks good on both of these. I don't have any complaints about that.Ultimately these candles are a good value for the price. They look better than most fake candles. But if you are like me, instead of feeling a "sense of strength and hope along with confidence" when you look at them, you will feel "disappointment and regret and 'Alright already, Cathy, you've made your point! They're not as good! We get it!' "If this deters you from these candles but you still don't want to buy the other ones from Pottery Barn, you might take a look at other "Luminara" brand ones because that is what is listed on the base of the Pottery Barn ones.
