Review on πŸ’™ Kohler BLUE PART GP85160 Flapper with Float, 2 Inch by Dushawn Walker

Eliminates the need to hold a new toilet flap by the handle

The GP85160 replaces a number of Kohler Flush models, but you must hold the handle for it to function like previous models. . That's because Kohler made this replacement model large enough (if you hold the new on top of the old, it's easy to see) that it has too much extra water pressure on it to perform the same way. It's probably designed to use even less water than their old faucets, but as of about 2000, 1.6-gallon toilets still don't flush as well, automatically reducing the amount of water even more (unless you're standing there and holding the handle), stink and end up using more water as most users hold the handle longer than they really need to. And as can be seen in a photo, even after flushing again, the tank is still about 1/2 full of water, so it doesn't take a lot of water to work properly. The "fixes" that others have mentioned, removing most of the chain slack and setting the float to a low value, are necessary for each choke to work properly (this is how my old choke was set up) so they have it not done. I've also tried plugging the hole on the side of the bulb as others have recommended, although on my other two toilets with old valves the side hole allows air bubbles to escape and they work properly. It brought no noticeable improvements. What worked miraculously the first time was my last resort: cut the new flap so that it was much closer to the diameter of the old flap. I think a lot of people don't have Fiskars RazorSharp scissors at home, but they made it easy to cut the silicone used for the new damper, and having a pair (or something equally sharp) around the house helps a lot. As you can see from the photo, it wasn't a pretty finish, but it helped. I also removed the cap from the lamp hole (since the water in the lamp drains faster, reducing the lamp's weight and making it easier to lift) and as mentioned, it flared just like the old valve. Of course you have to be careful not to cut through the new flap or you'll end up with a leaking toilet, but a minute of careful cutting and you're done.
