I bought this belt specifically for hiking and it met my expectations! The belt came in a very nice box and was long enough. After adjusting the strap to size, I simply trimmed off the excess (easy to do) and used a lighter to seal the end of the nylon to prevent fraying. The strap is just the right width to fit through the loops of my hiking shorts - in fact the buckle fits through the loop albeit tightly compressed. The belt buckle is strong and easy to open or close. The strap stayed securely attached and there was no noticeable slippage while hiking. Although I will be using it for hiking I tested it and the belt goes through the belt loop of my jeans and other pants but the buckle does not. If you're looking for a wide hiking belt, then you've come to the right place!
