Review on Microtek ScanMaker V6UPL: Powerful Flatbed Scanner for PC/Mac Users by Michael Jennings

This is the most disappointing Revain purchase I have ever made. But since I can't return it and look for another one, I'm sticking with it until I give up and buy a brand new one. This POS system comes with a version of Omnipage which according to the poor documentation translated into Taiwanese needs to be installed in safe mode to avoid system crash. It can be used from within Photoshop when connected as a USB scanner, but if you do so none of the included software will be able to find the file. device and refuses to operate because it is only designed for the SCSI/parallel interface. In order to be able to use the supplied slide/negative scanner, you must of course use the supplied software. The software works great when you connect it as a parallel scanner, but when you do that, Photoshop crashes immediately after trying to access it. In other words, you have to use USB to scan into Photoshop, and this limits you to a pathetically few configuration options, scanning, and an inability to use the included slide/negative lamp. The device is poorly made [junk] and the companies selling it probably should be investigated for fraudulently presenting the device as a finished and ready-to-sell product. I haven't seen such a BIG limited scanner since 1991.
