The product was paired with an IDE adapter to connect an old desktop hard drive to a laptop. It worked with a laptop running Windows XP and I was able to read and write to the hard drive, transfer files from the hard drive and run programs hosted on the hard drive. Installation is a bit fiddly and the adapter doesn't hold the drive in place, but the included cables and software make it possible to connect. This did not work with laptops running Windows 8 or Windows 10. The operating system recognized the drive. but trying to read from it gave an invalid device message.
