Review on Lacis Drop Spindle Natural Wood by Kristen Reid

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Spinner for beginners

This was my first spindle that I bought and I am very happy with it. I basically chose this because it's about half the price of the spindle at my local weaving shop and here at Revain. It was easy to assemble and has a very nice smooth finish. The spindle has a slot that you have to wrap the yarn around instead of a hook, but that wasn't a problem. This spindle is heavier than most other vertical spindles I've longed for in weaving, but if some commenters have seen this as a disadvantage, I consider it an advantage. I've used a lighter wavy-top spindle and found that it jumps a bit if it spins too fast. No problem with the heavier weight of this spindle, it spins very smoothly and seems to spin faster (this phenomenon is probably due to the heavier weight). I could weave both heavier and lighter yarns on it (but I'll probably use something lighter if I ever want to weave lace or light yarns). Because this spindle is larger, it also holds a lot more yarn before I have to start winding.

Pros
  • Stable construction
Cons
  • Without automatic
