I use it to fill the pores of the guitars I build

I'm a master. I build, repair and restore acoustic guitars. I use Aquacoat to fill the pores of my models. It dries well and sands well. But you have to use it properly. My instructions may differ from Aquacoat's. But it works. Wood must be varnished before applying Aquacoat. I ALWAYS cover the wood with light colored shellac before applying Aquacoat. I paint my guitars with nitro lacquer or French Polished Shellac. My reasons for sealing wood with shellac: 1. Unlike other varnishes, shellac brings out the beauty of the wood.2. Shellac is a resin. It performs well under all coatings whether water, oil or resin based. I haven't found a finish that Shellac doesn't work well under. The key to a good result with Aquacoat is sealing the wood. I apply 2 coats of 1# shellac. But you can also use other ready-made ones, including polyurethane. Just make sure whatever you use is completely dry and prepped. Normally 2-3 thin coats of Aquacoat are required to fill the pores. Use it subtly. I just buff it with a paper towel in a circular motion. I repeat: make it thin. It dries in about an hour. I prefer to use 400g to 500g sandpaper on the block to smooth it out. If white spots appear on the guitar, the Aquacoat has not yet dried and applied. Repeat if necessary.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Updates available
