My previous spool of this tape was a little wider and it peeled off and cut a little cleaner. The last roll I bought isn't as wide and the tape breaks diagonally more often, wasting tape and time. However, I love this product. Ideal for repairing paperback books knowing the ribbon will not yellow. It's really crystal clear, although the sticky side also shows fingerprints when you hold it in your hands. I would love to give five stars but I feel like someone who can count beans obviously thought that it should be a little less wide and a little less durable. making me a less than satisfied customer. Why mess with success? Update: Downgrading my rating from four to two stars. I would have given five stars then. Then, as mentioned above, the tape suddenly got a lot thinner when we reordered. We recently ordered a 1" wide roll and this time the outside edges of the roll of tape are sticky. The reason why sticky edges of the tape roll is a problem is because the tape collects dust and lint while the tape roll is waiting to be used. Then when you tear off the tape, the edges will darken with dust and lint. To prevent this, now we need to store the roll of tape in a plastic bag when not in use, and we must be careful about putting them down when using them. That's never happened to me with this band. What is happening to the quality of this product? I suspect some genius somewhere figured out how this company could "cut costs" by lowering the quality of the product. I think we will look for an alternative. Update 2: I just found out why I thought this tape was originally thicker when we first bought it: It was because it was another J-Lar brand tape that came on the clear to the reel core” printed. We're bringing back the 1" wide ribbon with the wand edge issue and returning to a J-Lar product that I'm sure will be worth the extra money.
