I've lost count of the number of pairs of Austins I've had. I usually buy a new pair every fall because they seem good for everyday wear - call it give or take 2000 miles give or take. They maintain their waterproofing and comfort well, but the sole wears out over time, usually by the time one of the laces starts to wear out due to friction on the upper sleeve. That's not a complaint - the science of materials in footwear aims to find the perfect compromise between comfort, performance and durability. I happily buy these shoes year after year and literally trample them into the ground.
