I've read reviews from people who said the small door was flimsy and didn't like it as a laptop accessory but as I wanted to use it for my TiVo Series 2 box it was TiVo recommended this, I took a deep breath and went for it. It turned out to be a good call. My TiVo is tucked very close to my wireless router, along with my entertainment system components, so I basically made connections and never had to worry about it again. It's never moved or removed, so once it's in place you're done. However, if someone actually had to run an ethernet cable some distance from the USB to the router and ever tripped over the cable or otherwise dropped it, I can see the little door on the USB would pop open and that would be the end of it. What the picture doesn't show very well is that the door isn't just an access point, it's crucial in keeping the ethernet cable in place (and at a very odd and fragile angle at the same time). Without them the cable wouldn't fit properly (or wouldn't fit at all) and you'd be SOL or have to wring it out with some pretty strong tape. At this point it wouldn't be worth the trouble, just replace it. Never had a problem with its performance (connects flawlessly, downloaded an unboxed movie in less than an hour) so bottom line - if you plug it in and forget it's a great little product.
