As much as you probably don't like spending the money on a tool that you'll use once in your life, or maybe more if you do this alot, just buy it. People and youtube videos will tell you that you can do this with a punch, or a big pair of channel lock pliers. Yeah, maybe in a perfect scenario that will work. For our work to replace the fuel pump on a 2005 Tahoe, even with this wrench which worked perfectly, I had to sit on the floor with my feet against the tank, with a 36" 1/2 breaker bar, with my wife and teenage son holding the tank and maximum pressure to get the lock ring to pop off. No punch or pliers was ever going to get the job done. Suck it up, buy it, add it to your job cost and move on with your life. We lost 3 days waiting for this to come in because I refused to pay $80-$90 for the same thing at the local auto parts store, which was still a 2 day wait.
