It doesn't work if I can't charge my device

This case is amazing in every way EXCEPT and it's big I can't charge my device I have in seen all the fantastic reviews just one mention about it. I asked. The man said he fixed it with a hacksaw. I don't know whether to risk it or send the case back. Why did I do it like this?
