Review on ๐Ÿ“ป Enhanced Sony DSXA415BT Digital Media Receiver: Bluetooth & Satellite Radio Connectivity for Optimal Performance by Rene Putman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good basic car radio with no frills.

Good basic car radio with no frills. The tuning sensitivity is damn good and probably better than some modern car radios. (eg Sensitivity adjustment, SNR, .) I soldered a Sony wiring harness adapter to my Ford car, it made it easy for me to change radio stations. As usual with car stereos, you will need to purchase an adapter harness designed for your car manufacturer and connect/solder to the included Sony harness adapter. I haven't tried the following: 1) USB stick 2) Satellite radio PROS 1) Basic radio with no frills! 2) Good voice sensitivity! CONS 1) The darkest brightness settings are still not dark enough for night driving. (I had the same complaint about a previous model of Sony car stereo about three years ago and wrote in my review that putting a piece of black tape over the glowing "Bass Boost" button lowered the overall brightness.) 2) Oddly enough. , no multicolored LEDs. (Your interior lights won't match if your car's interior lights aren't dark blue.) Much more important to me, however, is the sensitivity of the AM/FM tuning! 3) There is no 24-hour time format. And the 12/24 hour clock does not display other information at the same time! (It would be nice if the clock moved to a smaller clock on the side or bottom corner of the display while showing/toggling other information!) I still don't like it. I have trouble blindly feeling/touching while driving. (Small problem.) 4) Does not support basic PCM WAV format when using USB stick! The only next best supported lossless codec is FLAC. (I'll probably have to re-encode my entire music collection.) Does it support AAC M4A audio, but the AAC codec is for networked media, it lacks the high-fidelity of PCM WAV.5) Not sure if it has a microphone input am there backs of this radio but the manual talks pretty much about hands free phone calls. Assuming users can connect a bluetooth headset/microphone? (Minor concern.)

Cons
  • Big and chunky
